Update, Oliver and Me

We are doing fine.  Oliver had a setback this week, some infection flared up unexpectedly, and after another vet trip and more meds he is doing great.  What I think happened is he was very carefully waiting until he was released from his liquid meds dose on the kitchen counter, running off, and saving the medicine in his mouth to spit out in another room.  He hates, abhors, detests this liquid antibiotic.

We are now wise to his ways, and he is MUCH better, almost completely recovered.  Soon I will post a photo of his new look sans fur on one leg and explain what has happened, plus some valuable tips for all cat moms out there to keep in mind when a crisis occurs.

I too am doing much better finally.  Almost all the damage to my hands is healing well, my right hand is good but I do have one area on my left hand that needs some reconstructive surgery.  Because it is on the side of my thumb I use for quilting I won't be able to quilt for awhile but I am optimistic at the final outcome and will keep you posted about that too.  I will share my information with you.  Many of you gave me valuable advice on what to do with hand injuries, and I thank you for that.

I can't tell you how much all your caring messages here and in emails have meant to me, and truly how much they have helped.  I know you as quilters understand that my health and recovery are more important than teaching, and forgive me for cancelling classes.

I do hope to try and have some classes next year to accommodate disappointed students.  Believe me, I would much much rather be teaching than dealing with injuries and feeling so wretched for the last ten days.

The autumn leaves are beautiful here, Oliver is chirping at me again, and better days are ahead.  Thank you all again; am sending you all a warm hug of thanks.
Diane

That is one benefit of being older. Life has taught us the wisdom of caring for yourselves the way we need to. Glad you are on the mend and that you will take it easy as long as you need to! Blessings!

So glad to know both you and Oliver are improving. I hope your surgery goes well. Don't push your recovery, because you do want full recovery so you can continue to do your beautiful work. Enjoy the autumn color.

So glad to hear you are both on the mend. My cat is on antibiotics too and I have the hardest time getting him to take them. I guess he only likes fish flavored medicine! Hope you both relax and heal well!

Dear Diane, It is good to know that you and Oliver are getting better. We recently had two Burmese kittens and they are incredibly lovable. Although they are my very first cats, I do understand what you meant when you said would do anything you could to help the little guy. Enjoy the nice season and take care. Ming

So relieved you are on the improve as is Oliver. I can understand how you must feel, but I am sure you know we are all here for you and feeling your pain and discomfit too.
Many healing thoughts for you and look forward to you next posting. I was really devastated to hear your news last post.

So happy to hear the positive update regarding you and Oliver. That is wonderful news!
The intelligence of animals never fails to amaze me! How he knew to hold the meds in his mouth and run off to where you could not see him so he could then proceed to spit them out. Toooo darned smart for his own good.......unfortunately, since that impeded his recovery. Glad you discovered his trick. :)

Trust a cat to find a way to avoid medicine! Glad you are both on the mend. I can just imagine how twitchy you must be feeling with a ban on quilting but it will be for the best in the long run I'm sure. Take care!

Prayers and healing quilty hugs I'm sending to you. You are a person dear to my heart and it saddens me to know you are suffering. Take care, rest lots, enjoy your surroundings as they help heal the wounds. I'm glad Oliver is doing better too! :-)
I appreciate all that you have taught me through your books-I would not be where I am today with my quilting without your help. Thank-you so very much!!! Martha

Dear Diane,
You won't believe how often you are mentioned in our quilt gatherings here in Arkansas. 'Diane Gaudynski says...' is how our sentences begin.

It has been quite some time since you taught that class at Quest Quilters, but I am still influenced by what I learned. Last month I suddenly realized that I was quilting a marked design and Really Enjoying It. A milestone!

All that is by way of telling you how much you are valued. We are certainly pulling for you and looking forward to your full recovery. Hang in there!

Every day as I sit down at the machine, I think of you and know how much you are missing using your gift of glorious quilting. We're all sending prayers and good wishes for your complete recovery, and Oliver's too! In the meantime, try to enjoy the fall colors as you continue to heal.

Diane, Sending you healing thoughts for yourself and Oliver. Our animal family members are so important and deserve our love and care, which you obviously gave Oliver. Take care of yourself and give yourself permission to relax, enjoy the fall, and not fret.
